Violins of Hope

Program

A musical journey from Holocaust to hope, experience the Calgary Phil and Violins of Hope in a unique concert, where restored instruments, once belonging to Jewish victims of the Holocaust, come to life through stories of injustice, suffering, resilience, and survival. Wherever there was music, there was hope.

ACHRON Hebrew Melody Op. 33
BRAHMS Symphony No. 1
WILLIAMS Theme from Schindler's List
MENDELSSOHN Allegretto non troppo – Allegro molto vivace from Violin Concerto in E Minor Op. 64

The instruments featured in Violins of Hope are brought to Calgary courtesy of KSW Calgary Holocaust Education Fund, the Legacy Fund, and the Calgary Jewish Federation Holocaust and Human Rights: Commemoration and Education.

The National Music Centre will exhibit the instruments from 3 May to 16 June. The exhibition will offer immersive in-gallery experiences, enriched by historical images and the compelling stories that accompany each instrument. Learn more here.
