Project Description

Cantare Children’s Choir, formed in 1997 by Founder / Artistic Director Catherine Glaser-Climie, is dedicated to providing an extraordinary choral music experience through excellence in performance, outstanding music education, serving the community through song, and touring.  Cantaré has established an enviable reputation for the musical sophistication its exuberant members express and for its gorgeous tone and impeccable technique.

In addition to presenting its own acclaimed concert series, our award-wining choir is honored perform for prestigious events including for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II [in Ottawa], and in collaboration with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, Calgary Opera, Spiritus Chamber Choir, Luminous Voices and the Calgary Civic Symphony.

Boys and girls ages 6 to 18 come together in one of four ensembles to share in the very finest sacred and secular works from the Baroque to challenging contemporary pieces.  Commissioning new works is an important part of the program with over eighteen projects to date.  Cantaré was thrilled to sing the world premier of the Afghanistan Requiem in 2011 as well as many other productions with the Calgary philharmonic Orchestra including Mahler 8, Faust.  Last year, Cantaré was the featured performers in the CPO’s A Traditional Christmas.

Cantaré has won awards at the local, provincial and national level including First Prize at Canada’s National Music Festival.  Tours across Canada, the United States and Europe enhance the experience with once-in-a-lifetime opportunities.

This past summer, Cantare embarked on a Canada 150 Concert Tour Pilgrimage to the Battlefields of Belgium and France …. It was a remarkable experience to honour Canadian Soldiers for their service and sacrifice.
