Steven Lubiarz, a Troy, Michigan native, joined the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra’s second violin section in 2003. Beginning his musical studies at the age of five, he earned a Bachelor of Music from DePauw University, studying under Dan Rizner, Stephen Boe, and Sebastian Gürtler during a semester abroad in Vienna, Austria. Lubiarz continued his musical journey at Roosevelt University’s Chicago College of Performing Arts, earning a Master of Music in Violin Performance and Orchestral Studies. While there, he studied under Cyrus Forough and Joseph Golan and was also a member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago.
Prior to joining the Calgary Philharmonic, Lubiarz was a member of the New World Symphony Orchestra in Miami Beach, Florida, under the direction of Michael Tilson Thomas. His musical career includes orchestral & chamber music performances throughout North America, the Czech Republic, Austria, and Japan. Steven has been a member of the new music ensemble Ensemble Resonance as well as the managing member of Bell’arte Strings and performs yearly at the Arizona Musicfest in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Beyond his orchestral work, Lubiarz has a dedicated teaching career spanning over a decade. He has taught in New York, Florida, Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, Arizona, and Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
Lubiarz performs on a 1897 Leandro Bisiach violin, a gift from his first teacher, Anne Dodge. In addition to his musical career, Steven is also a licensed Residential Realtor and Certified Condo Specialist with a passion for assisting clients in real estate transactions throughout Calgary, Alberta and Phoenix, Arizona.
