Jeremy Bauman is a native of Waterloo, Ontario. He attended Wilfrid Laurier University where he studied both violin and viola under Jerzy Kaplanek and Christine Vlajk, respectively, of the Penderecki String Quartet. He switched to viola full-time in his final year at university, and since then spent a year studying with Steve Dann at the Glenn Gould School in Toronto.
In his most recent years, Bauman was a Fellow with the New World Symphony in Miami Beach, Florida. He has performed throughout Europe as a member of various projects including the Britten-Pears Orchestra in the UK, Germany, and Holland, the Lucerne Festival Academy in Switzerland and France, and the Aurora Chamber Music Festival in Sweden.
Bauman joined the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra in 2014. He plays on a viola made in 2008 by Canadian luthier Martin Heroux of Joliette, Quebec. Outside of music, he loves the outdoors and practices Vipassana Meditation regularly on his own and at 10-day retreats.
