In the spirit of our first Cork & Canvas event, Vintage Wine Tasting at Willow Park Wines and Spirits, here are some wines you can pair with classical music! Our Assistant Principal Bassoon player Michael Hope, and Violist Arthur Bachmann (along with his wife Sherry), gave us a hand. The next tasting is on March 14 – Craft Beer Night at Willow Park Wines and Spirits.
Cheers!
1) A perfect companion to “the best Pinot Noir you’ll ever have” is the Adagietto from Mahler’s Symphony No. 5 (performed by the CPO on May 9 & 10, 2014 for The Masters: Mozart, Mendelssohn and Mahler).
2) For a “Noble, Bold and in-your-face American or Australian Cabernet Sauvignon” we suggest the first movement from Brahms Symphony 3.
3)Wagner – Ride of The Valkryies requires a relatively straight-forward but powerful wine that makes an instant impact on the palate. Examples include a young Amador Zinfandel or Mendoza Malbec.
4) A sparkling Prosecco is perfectly matched with the effervescent first movement from Mendelssohn’s Italian Symphony.
