We’re excited about the guest artists coming for 2019/2020 and we know you will be, too! Every week we’re sharing a little bit about the talented individuals who’ll be sharing the stage with the CPO in the upcoming season. In honour of Beethoven’s 250th birthday in 2020, the CPO will be performing his Piano Concertos No. 1 through 5, each featuring a different pianist:
Clayton Stephenson
Stephenson was admitted into the Juilliard Pre-College at age 10. He currently studies at the Harvard/NEC Dual Degree program, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Economics at Harvard University and a master’s degree in piano performance at the New England Conservatory. Part of the Lang Lang International Music Foundation Young Scholars Alumni Community, he is the featured pianist for Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1.

Over the past decade, Chen has established herself as a talented and charismatic pianist. She earned critical acclaim at the International Chopin Piano Competition in 2000 and the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 2005 which launched her professional performing career. She is the featured pianist for Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 2.

Charles Richard-Hamelin
Juno Award-nominated Canadian pianist Charles Richard-Hamelin is standing out today as one of the most important musicians of his generation. He is a laureate of the International Chopin Competition in Warsaw, the Montreal International Music Competition, and the Seoul International Music Competition. His “immensely sophisticated and daring” performances have garnered him worldwide acclaim, and he is the featured pianist for Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3.

In 2000 Chi became the only Canadian and the only female to win the prestigious Honens Prize. Chi, who was raised in Calgary, is sought after as a concerto soloist of musical and technical distinction, and is noted for the breadth of her repertoire. She is the featured pianist for Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4.

Inon Barnatan
Named by the New York Times as “one of the most admired pianists of his generation.” Inon Barnatan is celebrated for his poetic sensibility, musical intelligence, and consummate artistry. He was recently named the new Music Director of the La Jolla Music Society Summerfest and is the featured pianist for Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 5.
