Spend Valentine’s weekend with your Calgary Phil immersed in the passionate music of Tchaikovsky. No one knew as well as he the agonies of forbidden love, the intense emotions of which he channeled in two stunning orchestral fantasies: Romeo and Juliet and Francesca da Rimini. Composed in the aftermath of his disastrous marriage, the fiery Violin Concerto, performed by dynamic violinist Bomsori Kim, embodies the renewal of the composer’s creative energies.
