Things are busy here at the CPO with less than four weeks until the start of our 2013/2014 Concert Season. We have some great things coming up at the CPO this year including new faces, new music, and new guests.
New Faces
At our first concert, “A Taste of the CPO,” we will welcome our new Resident Conductor, Adam Johnson, to the podium. Adam is an Alberta boy who was raised in Hinton and later moved to Montréal to pursue his conducting career and education. We’re very pleased to welcome him home so he can lead our Orchestra through their first performance of the Season. We also say hello to our newest Orchestra member – Patrick Staples, who joins our Double Bass section.

New Music
This Season features some incredible music that the CPO has never performed, including “Roman Festivals”, the third movements in Respighi’s Roman Trilogy (Nov. 2) and “A Song of Joys,” a brand new work by Canadian composer Stephen Chatman. This work, part of the Ode to Joy concert (May 1), was commissioned by the CPO and has never been performed by any orchestra before. Don’t miss your chance to hear it for the very first time.

New Guests
And this Season at the CPO wouldn’t be complete if we didn’t have some outstanding guest artists joining us. Along with returning favourites Chantal Kreviazuk, Bowfire, Jon Kimura Parker and Yamandu Costa, we also welcome some guests who have never performed with the CPO, including AC/DC tribute band Back in Black, classic rock duo Air Supply, 2012 Honens Prize Laureate Pavel Kolesnikov and violinist Stefan Jackiw.

Welcome to the CPO’s 2013/2014 Concert Season! Tickets are now on sale online and through our box office at 403-571-0849. We hope to see you in the fall!

Resident Conductor,
Adam Johnson
