Steve Amsel has been the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra’s Principal Clarinet since 1975. Steve’s solo performances with the CPO include most recently the 2002 Gershwin Five Preludes (Jeff Tyzak, Conductor), the 2002 Weber Concerto (Franz Paul Decker, Conductor) and the 2002 Mozart Concerto, recorded for CBC broadcast, (Hans Graf, Conductor.) Steve has appeared as a guest artist with University of Calgary String Quartet in concerts in Calgary and throughout Alberta. Steve toured in Europe with the CPO during the 2000 Europe tour (Hans Graf, Conductor).
Steve received a Bachelor of Music and a Masters of Music from the University of Texas at Austin and is also a graduate of the New England Conservatory. Steve has worked as a Clarinet instructor at the University of Calgary and as a Chamber Music Coach at Mount Royal College Conservatory.
