Daniel Stone, violist, is a recent graduate of the Yale School of Music where he studied with Ettore Causa. While at Yale, he was a faculty member at the Fairfield School of Music and a member of the Orange String Quartet. A native of Chicago, he previously studied at Indiana University with Stephen Wyrczynski of the Philadelphia Orchestra, and with Desirée Ruhstrat of the Lincoln Trio. His summer studies include the Kneisel Hall, Norfolk, Sarasota, Tanglewood, and Aspen music festivals. He has been featured in Norfolk’s Gala Concert with Emanuel Ax and as an honorary guest musician with the European Union Youth Orchestra during their North American concert tour. As a soloist, he has performed with the New Haven Ballet for a solo Bach collaboration and on Chicago’s WFMT radio station for the program “Introductions”. Stone is also an arranger/editor with a uniquely lush sonority and unobtrusive notation; his arrangements of Balkan folk tunes are frequently performed by the Black Oak Ensemble. He joined the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra’s viola section in the fall of 2016.
