The RBC Concerto Competition, in support of emerging artists’ development, is an excellent example of a corporation that understands the importance of helping others build a better future. The competition, unique in Canada, enables the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra and the University of Calgary, Music Department to achieve mutual artistic goals, and more importantly, it is one that instills in emerging artists the importance of personal responsibility for high performance. The CPO is honoured to partner with RBC in the development of emerging talent.

Every year, a juried audition process selects five music students from the University of Calgary’s Faculty of Arts to work towards performing and competing in the finals of the RBC Concerto Competition. During their preparation time, the five finalists are given the opportunity to work with CPO musicians, management and media partners to develop their professional and artistic skills. The program culminates in a concert at the University of Calgary’s Rozsa Centre featuring all five finalists performing concerto movements with the full CPO and conductor Edmond Agopian.

As part of their prize, the RBC Concerto Competition Winner is offered a prestigious opportunity to perform with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra in an upcoming Season.
